The Angelina Program

Your yacht earns.
You enjoy it.
We manage the operations.

You arrive on a Friday; the boat is fuelled, cleaned and waiting — someone else handled the booking that paid for your week, and someone else handles the winter haul-out you'll never think about. Bookings, crew, maintenance, reporting: one team across 14 Croatian bases. The yacht is yours; the work is ours.

Ownership without the headaches

Most owners who join the programme do so for one of three reasons. Usually, it's all three.

Your yacht works towards paying for itself

Charter revenue offsets the costs of ownership — marina, insurance, maintenance — and in favourable seasons can contribute meaningfully towards financing repayments. The owner bears these yacht costs directly; Angelina's operational services are covered separately.

  3. 3

    Croatian company setup

We facilitate registration of your Croatian d.o.o. (approximately €670 in fees plus €2,700 minimum capital). Through commercial charter use via your d.o.o., the full input VAT on the purchase is recoverable through commercial charter use — subject to structure, confirmed with your tax advisor in the feasibility study.

    Ongoing operations

Bookings, crew briefings, check-in/check-out, cleaning, maintenance coordination, defect tracking, guest damage recovery, insurance claims, all managed by our base teams. Maintenance costs are borne by the owner; we handle scheduling, offers, and oversight, with detailed monthly reporting via the owner portal.

    Income disbursement

Charter income is invoiced monthly from your Croatian company to Angelina. Your owner's share funds your yacht's operating costs (marina, insurance, service), and the net balance is transferred to you with full reporting via the owner portal.

Your first five years as an owner

You're not just entering a charter programme. You're joining a fleet of 300+ owners who've made the same decision. Here's what that relationship looks like across years, not just seasons.

Year one — the foundation

Your Croatian company is registered, the purchase is VAT-structured, and your yacht enters the fleet — first bookings, first income statements.

Year two — full velocity

Returning guests and optimised pricing stabilise occupancy, and you take your first full personal-use weeks in the shoulder season.

Year five — the decision point

Upgrade to a newer model, expand to a second yacht, or exit through our resale desk — we advise on all three paths, without pressure.

How the cash flow is structured

Every charter season follows the same pattern. Gross revenue flows from bookings, the owner receives their share, then yacht-specific operating costs are deducted to reach net cash flow. The euros differ for every yacht; the structure stays the same.

The actual numbers depend on the yacht: its purchase price, rate card, base, age, configuration, financing and personal-use weeks. We don't publish aggregated income or yield figures because they would mislead — each yacht has its own feasibility study modelling the real cash flow.

Private ownership vs. charter management

The right choice depends on how you plan to use the yacht. Here's the structural comparison. The actual euro numbers come from each yacht's individual feasibility study.

Private ownership
Charter management
Operating costs
Paid in full by owner — marina, insurance, service, maintenance, all out of pocket
Partially or fully offset — charter revenue covers the same costs, extent varies by yacht
Annual income
None — no revenue stream
Charter revenue, owner's share — net cash flow varies by yacht, see feasibility study
Personal use
Unlimited — sail whenever you want, no restrictions
Pre-booked weeks/season — number set in the management contract
VAT treatment
Limited or none — depends on personal vs company structure
Full input-VAT recovery — via a Croatian d.o.o. running a genuine charter business
Yacht condition
Owner-managed — you arrange all maintenance and winterisation
Professionally maintained — regular inspections, charter-standard upkeep
Exit value
Depreciation absorbed by owner — resale reflects condition and market only
Depreciation offset by charter income and VAT recovery — modelled per yacht over the full cycle
Management effort
High — marina coordination, insurance, service scheduling, winterisation
Minimal — monthly owner report, one contract, one team
Best for
Sailors who want full freedom and sail many weeks per year
Owners who want the yacht to offset its own costs while personal use is limited

Structural comparison only. Actual cash-flow figures are yacht-specific and modelled in each yacht's individual feasibility study (typically a 5–10 year horizon, tailored to your structure).

Everything that's handled for you

Your owner's share covers Angelina's complete operational service: four departments, 23 services plus one add-on, from platform listings to VAT filing. The sub-agent booking network is paid entirely from our side, never from yours. One in-house team since 1995 — purchase, company setup, financing, operations and resale — with fleet buying power passed on to owners. Yacht-specific costs (marina berth, insurance, maintenance works and bookkeeping) are borne by the owner and detailed in the season economics above.

Getting started
Who is this programme for?

The programme suits buyers who want to own a yacht in Croatia without the burden of self-managing an asset, and who want their yacht to generate measurable income rather than sit idle for nine months a year.

It works equally well for first-time yacht buyers (we guide the full acquisition) and existing owners looking to put an underutilised yacht to work.

What is the minimum yacht size to join?

12 metres (approximately 39ft) is the practical minimum, as most commercial marinas in Croatia use 12m as their smallest pricing category. In practice, the most commercially successful boats in our fleet are 45–52ft monohulls and 40–46ft catamarans.

Our recommendation: if you're buying new, a 45–48ft monohull or a 42–44ft catamaran gives you the best combination of charter demand, weekly rate, and operating-cost efficiency.

Can I join with a yacht I already own?

Yes. We assess your existing yacht against our fleet standards and provide a feasibility study covering expected weekly rates, projected occupancy, and required upgrades (if any) before you commit.

Used yachts up to approximately 8 years old are usually eligible without major modification. Older yachts are assessed case by case.

Can I buy a used/pre-owned yacht and still join?

Yes — our pre-owned fleet includes boats purchased by owners through our sales team who immediately entered the management programme. Pre-owned yachts in charter-ready condition often offer better value and faster break-even than new builds.

We inspect every pre-owned boat against our technical and commercial checklist before recommending it as a programme candidate.

Which charter base should I choose?

We operate 14 bases across Croatia. Base selection affects occupancy rates, weekly pricing, and logistics. Our top-performing bases for charter income are currently Split, Trogir, Biograd na Moru, and Dubrovnik.

We provide a base recommendation as part of the feasibility study, factoring in your yacht type, target market, and the current supply/demand balance at each location.

The financials
How does financing work — can the yacht pay for its own loan?

In favourable seasons, charter revenue can contribute significantly towards loan repayments on well-chosen yachts with 20–30% down payments, though coverage varies by season and occupancy. We work with Croatian and European lenders who offer preferential terms to programme participants, including lower interest rates and flexible repayment structures.

The purchase is typically structured as a private loan to your Croatian company, enabling tax-free capital repayments. Your accountant (or ours) handles the structuring.

What are the total annual operating costs I should budget for?

For a typical 45ft monohull, budget approximately:

  • Insurance: ~1% of net yacht value (approx. €3,000–€4,500)
  • Berthing: €3,500–€6,000 depending on base and berth size
  • Annual service (engine, rig, hull): €3,000–€5,000
  • Bookkeeping & accountancy: €1,500–€2,500
  • Maritime safety fees: ~€300

Day-to-day cash costs therefore typically total €12,000–€18,000/year. The season economics above model owner costs at 7.85% of the purchase price (€27,475 on the €350,000 example) — the difference is the maintenance reserve and wear items, included so the projection stays conservative.

Corporate tax (10–18% on net profit, among the lowest in the EU) applies separately to the company’s result and is typically reduced through yacht depreciation — your feasibility study models it.

Covered by Angelina from our share: all sales and marketing, booking-platform costs, sub-agent commissions, base staff, check-in/check-out, cleaning, maintenance coordination, guest damage processing, refit assistance, insurance claim management, and financial reporting.

Legal & tax
Do I need a Croatian company?

Not mandatory, but strongly recommended. Without a Croatian company you may not be able to benefit from VAT-exempt delivery or VAT recovery through commercial use, charter income is subject to higher personal taxation, and you cannot offset operating expenses against revenue.

Any EU company with a valid VAT ID can participate, but the Croatian d.o.o. structure is significantly more tax-efficient for yacht owners. We facilitate the full registration process: it takes approximately 2–4 weeks and costs around €670 in fees plus €2,700 minimum capital.

VAT refund: through commercial charter use via your Croatian d.o.o., the full input VAT on the purchase is recoverable through commercial charter use — subject to structure, confirmed with your tax advisor in the feasibility study. On a €350,000 yacht, this refund is worth €87,500. We advise on the optimal structure for your specific situation.

Can I charter under my personal name instead of a company?

Yes, but we don't recommend it. Under personal ownership, VAT (25%) on purchase is not reclaimable, charter income is taxed at personal income rates (higher than corporate rates), and operating expenses cannot be fully offset.

The financial disadvantage versus company ownership is material — lost VAT recovery, lost depreciation offset against charter income, and operating costs paid in full from after-tax income. The exact euro impact depends on the yacht and is modelled in the feasibility study.

What are the tax implications for non-Croatian residents?

Croatia's nominal corporate tax rate is 10% on annual profit up to €1M (18% above), but yacht depreciation fully offsets taxable charter income, bringing the effective corporate tax rate to 0% over the charter period. Dividends distributed from a Croatian company are subject to a 10% withholding tax, one of the lowest in the EU.

Your home country's tax-residency rules determine how Croatian income is treated locally. We work with a network of tax advisors across Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia — the most common buyer nationalities — who can advise on double-taxation treaty implications.

What happens if I want to sell the yacht?

You can exit the programme with standard notice (typically one season's notice or end-of-season). We can list the yacht through our sales division — charter-history boats with documented income records typically achieve better resale prices than privately held yachts.

There is no exit penalty if proper notice is given per the management contract.

Personal use
Operations
What happens during the off-season?

Year-round, the owner portal shows bookings, occupancy against the wider fleet, income accrued, expenses and maintenance history — plus an automatic monthly report by email.

From December to February, base managers supervise winter maintenance: engine winterisation, hull cleaning and antifouling, rig inspection, interior cleaning, sail inspection, and any scheduled repairs.

You receive a winter service report at the end of the off-season detailing all work completed and any recommended upgrades before the next season.

What if a charter client damages the yacht?

All charter clients pay a security deposit (typically €1,500–€3,000 depending on yacht size) held until check-out inspection is completed. Minor damage is charged against the deposit. Major damage triggers the comprehensive insurance policy covering all in-charter incidents.

Our base team documents the yacht condition with photos at every check-in and check-out, creating a clear audit trail for any disputes.
